The decade of 80s has seen phenomenal growth in the field of Computer Science & Engineering in India in tune with global development.  Osmania University has also initiated an ambitious programme in Computer Science & Engineering as part of the activities of the College of Engineering, when the U.G.C. identified the University for its Manpower Development Programme.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering came into being in the year 1988 offering mostsought after courses in the field of Computer Science and Engineering, both at undergraduate and graduate levels. The department has well qualified staff to its full strength of 15 specializing in various disciplines.

Apart from regular academic work, the department is actively involved in industrial training, consultancy,research and other professional activities. The department has close interaction with software development firms and R&D establishments.

Research Activities :

Research programme leading to Ph.D. degree was initiated a few years after the PG programme. M.Tech students are attached to industry on a full-time basis for their dissertation on relevant and need-based topics, providing real-life problem solving environment. Excellent interaction exists between the Department and R&D organisations and software development establishments in the twin cities.  Keeping in view the areas of specialisation of the faculty and the excellent environment for software development in and around Hyderabad, the following areas have been identified for research leading to M.Tech / Ph.D. degrees:

Mobile Computing, Network Security, Computer Networks, Computer Graphics, Image Processing, Real Time Systems, Fault Tolerant Systems, Distributed Systems and Grid Computing.
